Guitar to MIDI

AudioPod converts guitar parts to MIDI on every plan as an experimental option: tick Guitar in Audio to MIDI and AudioPod's audio-to-MIDI engine separates the guitar and transcribes it into a .mid file, for 960 credits per minute from a song or 300 from a guitar stem. Single-note lines work best.

How it works

Step by step

  1. 01

Open Audio to MIDI and upload the song or guitar recording.

  2. 02

Tick Guitar (it is off by default) and untick anything you do not need.

  3. 03

Run the job; the guitar is separated, then transcribed.

  4. 04

Download the guitar .mid file and clean up timing and stray notes in your DAW.

Why guitar is experimental

  • Strummed chords put many strings, string noise and pick attack into the same instant, so individual notes are hard to separate and timing comes out smeared.
  • Distortion adds harmonics that can read as extra notes.
  • A clean lead line or arpeggio, played one note at a time, transcribes far more usefully.
  • API callers can raise onset_threshold or min_note_len_ms above the defaults (0.5, 128 ms) to drop short spurious notes.

Good uses

  • Getting a riff or solo into a piano roll to learn or re-voice it.
  • Sketching a melody you played on guitar into MIDI for another instrument.
  • A starting point for tab or notation, to tidy by hand.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can AudioPod convert guitar to MIDI?

Yes, as an experimental option on every plan. Tick Guitar in Audio to MIDI. Dense or heavily-strummed guitar is hit-or-miss.

Why is guitar off by default?

Because results vary more than for bass, vocals or piano. Clean single-note playing transcribes well; dense strumming and heavy distortion often do not.

How much does guitar to MIDI cost?

960 credits per minute from a full song (3,840 credits, $0.51 pay-as-you-go, for 4 minutes). From a guitar stem you already split it is 300 credits per minute.

Can I convert only the lead guitar, or an acoustic guitar?

Audio to MIDI transcribes the guitar stem from the standard split. The lead, rhythm, acoustic and electric guitar isolators in the Stem Splitter return audio, not MIDI, so use them to hear a part clearly and transcribe from the guitar stem.

How accurate is it?

MIDI is a starting point — expect to tidy timing and note lengths. Drums aren't transcribed yet. Dynamics are approximate. Works best on clean recordings.
