# Bass to MIDI

AudioPod turns the bass line of any song into MIDI on every plan, Basic included: it separates the bass, then AudioPod's audio-to-MIDI engine transcribes it with bass-specific tuning — an automatic octave correction and a 60 Hz floor — for 960 credits per minute from a song or 300 from a bass stem.

## Facts

| Fact | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Reliability | Transcribes most reliably — the best place to start. |
| Selected by default | Yes |
| Octave correction | Always on: notes are moved up 12 semitones (one octave) |
| Low-frequency floor | Pitches below 60 Hz are ignored |
| Note thresholds | Stricter than other instruments: onset 0.7, frame 0.5 (defaults 0.5 / 0.3) |
| Track label in the multitrack file | Electric Bass (finger) (General MIDI program 34) |
| From a full song | 960 credits per minute (the stem split is included) |
| From a stem you already split | 300 credits per minute of the stem |
| Minimum charge | 10 credits |

## How to do it

1. Open Audio to MIDI and upload the song (bass is already selected).
2. Untick the other instruments if you only want the bass line.
3. Run the job; the song is split and the bass transcribed.
4. Download the bass .mid file and drop it on a bass or synth track.

## Why bass gets its own tuning

- Separated bass is usually read one octave too low by note detection, so every bass note is shifted up 12 semitones. You do not need to transpose the file yourself.
- Rumble and sub-bass below 60 Hz are ignored, so hum and room noise do not turn into stray notes.
- Note starts and sustains need more confidence than on other instruments (onset 0.7, frame 0.5), which keeps ghost notes and string noise out of the line.
- These settings are fixed for bass; API callers can still override the thresholds per job.

## Good uses

- Learning a bass line by reading it in a piano roll.
- Re-voicing a bass line with a synth bass in your DAW.
- Checking the root movement of a song before writing a chord chart.

## FAQ

**How do I convert a bass line to MIDI?**
Upload the song to Audio to MIDI with bass selected — it is on by default. AudioPod separates the bass and transcribes it. If you already split the song in the Stem Splitter, press Convert to MIDI under the bass stem instead.

**Why is my bass MIDI in the right octave?**
Because AudioPod corrects it automatically. Note detection reads separated bass an octave low, so every bass note is moved up 12 semitones before you download it.

**How much does bass to MIDI cost?**
960 credits per minute from a full song — 3,840 credits ($0.51 pay-as-you-go) for a 4-minute song, whichever instruments you pick. From an existing bass stem it is 300 credits per minute, 1,200 for 4 minutes, on top of the 2,640-credit split you already ran.

**Does it work on upright or synth bass?**
It transcribes whatever lands in the bass stem — the low end of the mix, which usually means bass guitar, upright bass or synth bass. Clean, clearly pitched lines read best; heavily distorted or layered low end is harder. MIDI is a starting point — expect to tidy timing and note lengths. Drums aren't transcribed yet. Dynamics are approximate. Works best on clean recordings.

**Is it free?**
It runs on every plan, including Basic, from your credits. Basic's monthly credits cover about 5.2 minutes of full-song conversion; Creator's 200,000 cover about 52 songs of 4 minutes.
